Beyond the Checklist: Addressing Fleet Maintenance Challenges for Safer Roads

Professional drivers are required to conduct a standard vehicle check before starting their journey. This check typically involves inspecting the vehicle's tyres, brakes, lights, mirrors and other important components to ensure they are in good working condition. The driver is also responsible for checking the fluid levels and making sure the vehicle has sufficient fuel.

These checks are important to ensure the safety of the driver and other road users, as well as to prevent breakdowns or accidents caused by mechanical failures. In some countries, such as the United States, there are specific regulations governing the pre-trip inspection process for commercial vehicles, and drivers are required to document their checks to demonstrate compliance with these regulations.

Despite the importance of completing standard vehicle checks, many companies still face challenges in managing and maintaining their vehicles. According to a survey conducted by Teletrac Navman, 39% of fleet managers reported that vehicle management and maintenance is their biggest challenge. Additionally, a report by the American Transportation Research Institute found that vehicle maintenance and repair costs accounted for approximately 10.1% of a motor carrier's total average cost per mile.

One possible solution to this problem is the use of technology solutions to help professional drivers complete vehicle checks more efficiently and accurately. Electronic logging devices (ELDs), mobile apps, telematics systems and RFID tags are just some of the technologies available that can streamline the pre-trip inspection process and improve overall vehicle management.

However, even with the availability of these technologies, there may still be barriers to their adoption. Some companies may not be aware of their existence, or they may not have the resources to invest in them.

There may be resistance from drivers who are used to traditional paper-based methods or who may not feel comfortable using technology. Finally, there may be logistical challenges in ensuring that all drivers are trained to use the technology solutions effectively and that the solutions are integrated seamlessly with other business processes.

To address these challenges, we have developed an eye-tracking-based solution that is easy to use and flexible.

  • Our eye-tracking-based solution provides instant, objective, and data-based feedback to drivers on how they complete vehicle checks.
  • The solution helps drivers identify areas where they may be making mistakes or missing important items, and offers real-time guidance to improve their performance.
  • Companies can improve the efficiency and accuracy of their vehicle checks, reducing the risk of accidents and breakdowns, and improving their overall safety record.
  • The solution ultimately saves time and money in maintenance and repair costs for companies.
  • We can help you to collect, document and share knowledge with new drivers or newcomers
